An explosive and truly unique musical event, as the full force of a symphony orchestra collides head-on with Hip Hop and Techno!
Sparks will fly as acclaimed 'scratch' DJ Beni G (Mixologists) takes centre-stage for a very special performance of Gabriel Prokofiev's incredible Concerto for Turntables and Orchestra: a modern masterpiece, performed for the first time by symphony orchestra.
Opening the concert is Todd Levin's Blur (Fragrance Free Mix), a savage, orchestral evocation of Detroit Techno, fusing Motown, rock, techno and classical into a pulsating 8 minute musical frenzy.
Inspired by the energetic sounds and rhythms of industrial Detroit is Michael Daugherty's Motown Metal, a throwback to 60's Soul and the Motown musical assembly line.
Also on the set-list is John Adams' pulsating, seductive Chairman Dances, the mighty Steel Dance Suite by Sergei Prokofiev (Gabriel's grandfather) and Mosolov's riveting, pounding Iron Foundry.
“From Edgard Varèse’s experiments with reel-to-reel and ‘organised
sound’, to the proto-sampling of musique concrète, led by Pierre
Schaeffer in the 1950s, classical composers have a rich history of
manipulating recorded sounds, that stretches back long before Kool Herc
or Grandmaster Flash scratched their first records.” - GABRIEL PROKOFIEV
This one-off event features special lighting, live video feeds and VJ accompaniment.
