What is the latest from the RSNO on the closure of the Usher Hall? Performances at the Festival Theatre several years ago were not a success and saw a drop in audience numbers, mainly i think because concerts were given on a Sunday Night. My vote would go to The EICC which is ten mins walk from the Usher Hall but performances must remain on a Friday evening to maintain core audience.{dont ask me why Edinburghers can't go to a concert on a Sunday evening though!} What other venues are being considered?

The official press release from Edinburgh City Council, including a quote by RSNO Chief Executive, Simon Woods, can be read here http://www.rsno.org.uk/cms/content/view/152/143/
Needless to say, we are leaving no stone unturned in our plans for next Season...venue, day, time and so on. We are very hopeful that, whatever the final solution, as many of this Season's huge audience large base of dedicated Subscribers will follow the on-form Orchestra.
We welcome any comments and suggestions from Edinburgh concertgoers.
Thanks

Having recently been involved in trying to find a venue in Edinburgh suitable for a large Symphony Orchestra and Chorus myself I can vouch for the lack of suitable alternatives to the Usher Hall. I would definitely recommend the McEwan Hall in Bristo Square. Has a very central location, looks fantastic inside, would easily hold any performers and has an audience capacity approaching 1500. You never know, you might even get more students coming along as well and reach out to a new audience. Have to say that the Conference Centre had never occured to me but I find the theatre in there a bit of a strange space and I'm not sure how good the acoustics are since it clearly wasn't designed with symphonic concerts in mind.

That's a very interesting suggestion. Problems with University using hall perhaps? Does the RSNO management have an update for us?

Can't see there being much class with University things except during exam time, however for one night a week you wouldn't think that was much hassle. I presume we won't hear anything until a definite decision has been made but it would be nice to know the progress of it.
