Tchaikovsky 4 vs the fateful fourth? - 2008/03/03 11:02
Hi.

Am I being thick or are Thursday's and Saturday's concert the same?

Thanks

Not thick at all! Just not as informed as you're about to be...

Thursday is the second of this season's Naked Classics series, featuring Tchaikovsky 4.

I take it you've never been to a Naked Classics concert before? In which case you've missed "one of the most brilliant new concert formats in Europe", a great night, whether you're a complete classical newbie or a hardened afficianado.

In the first half, Paul Rissmann explores the work in detail, using lighting, graphics, excerpts played by the orchestra and individual players, interviews and so on. In the second half they put the piece together in full.

Naked Classics has been running for the last year and a half and in its time has introduced thousands of newcomers to great classical masterworks. But there's something for everyone - I did a music degree but I still find something new, interesting or hilariously funny in Paul's informal exploration.

Loads of people go to both the Thursday and the Saturday performance. Saturday's concert is a chance to hear the work in a 'formal' concert setting (not forgetting Kernis brilliant New Era Dance and the Mozart PC 22 with Jonathan Biss).

Personally I totally adore Tchaik 4, I was obsessed with it as a teenager so I can't wait for these concerts! Read more about Naked Classics here:

PLUS IT IS ONLY £10 A TICKET...
See you there!

Brilliant! Thanks for the reply. I think I'll be there on Thursday (you're right I've never been to a Naked Classics one and I think I have been mising out).

Cheers!
