Mahler - 2008/05/27 13:46
Over the last few years we have seen the performances of the first 4 mahler symphonies and we look forword to hearing the 5th next season. Is there plans to complete the cycle including the whole lot including 8 with all its extras over the next few years?

I've thought this too. It would be fab if they were to keep it going. I'm sure everyone would love Deneve to do all the Mahler with the Orchestra. VERY EXCITING PROSPECT!!!!

I'm sure I read somewhere that Stéphane Denève (don't forget the grave accent! ) is supposed to be doing the whole cycle. What I'd be interested to know is, will this include No. 10, or will we just get the opening Adagio as a tantalising glimpse of "the symphony that never was", or does Denève not agree with realisations of unfinished works by other hands in the first place, in which case we'll be stopping at No. 9? It'll also be interesting to see which order he performs the inner movements of No. 6 in.
I definitely agree that the Mahler symphony performances have been excellent so far (I didn't get to No. 1 but I'm sure it was as good as the others), and am looking forward to the rest with great excitement.
