World first for RSNO with new online music service - RSNO musiconline PDF Print E-mail
The Royal Scottish National Orchestra (RSNO) is proud to announce the arrival of its unique online music service, RSNO musiconline. Developed in partnership with Classical World Limited, the RSNO is the first orchestra in the world to implement an online resource of this nature or magnitude, offering access to over 100 of the Orchestra’s recordings, as well as performances from thousands of other artists.

From Wednesday 20 September, visitors to the RSNO’s website, www.rsno.org.uk, will have access to over 57,000 recordings from forty labels in an easy-to-use and secure online environment.. Many of these recordings are from the RSNO’s recorded archives and are currently unavailable for purchase in stores. The service boasts the key recordings under the baton of Sir Alexander Gibson, Neeme Järvi and Bryden Thomson, and more will be added in the months to come.

RSNO musiconline is provided on a subscription basis, and membership costs £8.80 per month.  Members are entitled to instant unlimited streaming of all audio tracks and up to 8 downloads per month. Members can also construct their own playlists from thousands of tracks available, as well as send their recommendations to others.  For new potential users, a 15 day free trial is available, which offers unlimited streaming of audio tracks and 1 free download.

RSNO musiconline  offers free previews of all available tracks to make it easy to get to know new material that would otherwise be left unexplored. Additionally, it provides relevant, detailed and accessible information on many of the musical works and composers in the database, accessible through an easy-to-use search facility. This functionality has been fully integrated into upcoming RSNO concert listings, allowing customers to link directly from the concert page into composer and work information, and to hear audio samples of music programmed.

The service is not limited to classical recordings, but also contains genres ranging from jazz and blues to world music.  There are currently 57,000 individual tracks available, with further additions being uploaded weekly.  Ease of use for visitors is a key issue and the RSNO has ensured that navigating RSNO musiconline  is simple and requires no previous web experience.

RSNO Chief Executive, Simon Woods, welcomed the launch of RSNO musiconline: “Not only have we brought the Orchestra’s fantastic recorded legacy back into the limelight, but we are providing a seamless and easy way for our audience to learn about and listen to the great works we play in the concert hall. This is a huge step forward for the RSNO and its customers, and overnight has turned our website into one of the richest in the orchestral world.”
