Philip Hore Principal Tuba
I was born and grew up in Cornwall. I was aware of, and enjoyed, music from an early age but I wasn't obviously musical. By my mid-teens I was sufficiently interested to want to play something and joined the school band and town band with the same band master (who was also the first teacher of former first horn of the SNO, Frank Lloyd). I became a member of Cornwall County Youth Band and National Youth Band of Great Britain. I worked as a laboratory assistant and trained as a rubber technologist whilst having private lessons with players in London, Paul Lawrence, Michael Barnes and the legendary ‘Tug' Wilson. Simultaneously for five years I was able to undertake a lot of freelance playing in particular at ROH Covent Garden and BBC Concert Orchestra before joining the RSNO in 1968.
In my spare time I do some teaching and coaching, and am interested in old aeroplanes and railways.
