The Royal Scottish National Orchestra Junior Chorus is a group of young people who want to do just that, SING SING SING ... with their Chorusmaster Christopher Bell . The Chorus, based in Glasgow, is organised and funded by the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. Its aim is to teach children to read music and to train their voices to high standards of performance. The singers perform with the RSNO as well as other leading UK orchestras, in Scotland's main concert venues such as the Usher Hall and The Glasgow Royal Concert Hall.

The Chorus is divided into four choirs. The Training Choir takes in youngsters from Primary 4 and uses the Kodaly method of training. After about a year in the Training Choir, children progress to the Probationary Choirs. Here the emphasis is on developing their skills in reading music, singing and music theory.

As places become available singers in the second of the Probationary Choirs are invited to move to the Junior Chorus. Occasionally, singers aged between 11 and 16, who can read music fluently and have extensive singing experience, can be admitted directly into the Junior Chorus.

The Choirs meet every Monday evening, and very much enjoy rehearsing together.

Performing is an important part of the life of a Junior Chorus member but there are other activities to be enjoyed. In September some of the singers go away together for a residential weekend of very hard musical work and lots of fun.

The Junior Chorus has produced a CD of Benjamin Britten's A Ceremony of Carols and John Rutter's Dancing Day, which is available from the Chorus Manager, price £10.99.
