Alexander Lazarev Conductor Emeritus

Alexander Lazarev studied at the St Petersburg Conservatory and later with Leo Ginsbourg at the Moscow Conservatoire. From 1987 to 1995 he was Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Bolshoi Theatre, the first person for over thirty years to hold both positions concurrently.

ImageAlexander Lazarev became the RSNO's Principal Guest Conductor in 1994 and was the RSNO's Principal Conductor from September 1997 until July 2005.

Since then the partnership has gone from strength to strength with highly-acclaimed performances the length and breadth of Scotland, at the Barbican and the BBC Proms in London, as well as a major tour of Norway.
