The Wolfson Foundation

The RSNO took up residence in the newly-constructed RSNO Centre in 2015. These bespoke premises provide the Orchestra with a flexible space for rehearsal, performance and engagement activities. The RSNO’s ambition to create truly world-class facilities for our Orchestra was supported by a generous grant from The Wolfson Foundation, in particular allowing us to install state-of-the-art computer notation and digital audio editing facilities in the Wolfson Music Lab.

In 2017, The Wolfson Foundation continued its support of the RSNO with a grant to contribute funds towards the costs of a new piano. The RSNO Centre's New Auditorium provides a flexible performance space with a sensitive acoustic and the Orchestra required an instrument suited to the more intimate venue. The highest quality music requires the highest quality instruments and a decision was made to purchase a new Steinway & Sons Model B piano to be used in chamber music performances and by pianists in rehearsal.

RSNO audiences are passionate about piano music and the Orchestra has been delighted to welcome such distinguished pianists as Steven Osborne, Nikolai Lugansky and Jonathan Biss to perform with us in recent Seasons. The RSNO is incredibly grateful to The Wolfson Foundation for their generous gift towards the purchase of a new piano for the Orchestra. As a lead donor, The Wolfson Foundation provided the bedrock for our piano appeal. Our dedicated supporters joined the campaign and contributed hundreds of donations to help us raise the remainder of the costs. This ensured that the piano, and its ongoing maintenance costs, could be purchased for the RSNO for our musicians and audiences to enjoy for many years to come.

From all at the RSNO, thank you to The Wolfson Foundation for their generous support.
