Second Violin Anne Bünemann

When did you join the RSNO?
I joined the RSNO in October 2002.

Where are you from?
I am from Dortmund in Germany.

Where did you study?
I studied at the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen (Germany), and then at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester.

What do you enjoy most about being in the RSNO?
I enjoy working together with so many fantastic musicians and playing a great variety of compositions.

Tell us your favourite RSNO story/memory so far.
My favourite musical memory is playing Verdi Requiem at the Edinburgh International Festival with high profile cast. My favourite anecdote is when one viola player, by mistake, packed his daughter’s school shirt for a concert and had to wear it!

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not playing with the Orchestra?
When I am not playing with the Orchestra I enjoy playing with my children and gardening.

Do you have any hidden talents?
I am quite obsessed with plants.

If you could have dinner with anyone (alive or dead) who would it be, and why?
I would choose Sergei Prokofiev, to hear more about his interesting life.

You’re stranded on a desert island. You’re allowed 3 CDs and 1 book. What would they be, and why?
My CDs would be Beethoven’s String Quartet “Die grosse Fuge” op 133 (Berg Quartett), J.S. Bach’s St Johns Passion and Kurt Weill’s Three Penny Opera. My book would be an encyclopedia.
