Fiona West

When did you join the RSNO?
I joined the RSNO in October 1988.

Where are you from?
I'm from Edinburgh.

Where did you study?
I studied at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (formerly RSAMD).

What do you enjoy most about being in the RSNO?
The things I enjoy most about being in the RSNO include playing my favourite instrument, being part of a large orchestral family, and expressing myself through the music I love.

What do you enjoy doing when you're not playing with the Orchestra?
When I'm not playing in the Orchestra, my hobbies include gardening, dog walking, cooking and spending time in Arran. I also enjoy crosswords - I do them while playing with the Orchestra!

Do you have any hidden talents?
I make up silly McGonagall-type verses, but this is hardly a talent! The talent lies in keeping this hidden!

You're stranded on a desert island. You're allowed 3 CDs and 1 book. What would they be, and why?
If I was stranded on a desert island, can I take Scottish Cheddar, instead of a CD?! Probably Prokofiev 5 & 7 Symphonies. I would also take a book of Scottish Walks - just to remind me of my homeland.
