23 pianists from 15 countries arrived in Glasgow on Wednesday evening to take part in the Scottish International Piano Competition which runs from Friday 1 September until Sunday 10 September with the concerto finals with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra (RSNO). They were welcomed at a Civic Reception given by the Lord Provost of Glasgow at the City Chambers.

The preliminary rounds take place in the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland from 1 -  4 September, and the semi-finals taking place there on Wednesday 6 and Thursday 7 September.  The final at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall is held on Sunday 10 September at 3.00pm.

The Scottish International Piano Competition, which takes place every three years, is further delighted to announce a new media partnership for 2017 with Classic FM, the UK's favourite classical music radio station.

Through Classic FM, these talented young musicians' performances will reach as wide an audience as possible on air and via Classic FM's online exclusive content.

Classic FM's 5.8 million listeners will have the exclusive chance to hear the final form the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, shortly after the competition.  The programme will feature three concertos performed by the finalists with the RSNO under Thomas Søndergård.  Classic FM will also share social media videos featuring some of the pianists via their Facebook page and on ClassicFM.com.

As well as supporting the work of young musicians and composers, Classic FM has introduced an entirely new audience to classical music with a significant rise in the number of listeners under 25 in recent years.

Classic FM celebrates its 25th birthday on 7 September, and is marking the occasion with a series of events around the UK.
