Season Highlights

Blockbusters with Peter Oundjian
Music Director Peter Oundjian’s six blockbusting concerts will have you on the edge of your seat! Opening the Season with Stravinsky’s controversial The Rite of Spring and closing with Mahler’s powerful Ninth Symphony, join Peter and the musicians as they journey through music by Beethoven, Brahms, Bruckner and Shostakovich.

RSNO Chorus 175
Join us as we celebrate 175 years of the RSNO Chorus! Under the guidance of Chorus Director Gregory Batsleer, the RSNO Chorus is sounding better than ever. Don’t miss exciting performances of Brahms’ A German Requiem, a special pre-concert a capella performance, Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms, Handel’s Messiah, plus Bernstein’s MASS in collaboration with the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

German Romantics with Søndergård
Explore the music of Brahms and R Strauss with Principal Guest Conductor Thomas Søndergård and star pianists Sunwook Kim and Kirill Gerstein across two very special concerts.

An American Festival
Leonard Bernstein, one of the greatest musicians in American history, would have celebrated his 100th birthday in 2018. Our two-part festival pays tribute to his magnificent music, including his amazing MASS and ever-popular Symphonic Dances from West Side Story, alongside George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue.

Schumann Cycle with Sir Roger Norrington
We’re thrilled to invite Sir Roger Norrington to conduct all four of Schumann’s symphonies across the next two Seasons, starting with Schumann’s joyous Spring Symphony.

On the big screen
Our film series is bigger and better than ever! Don’t miss cult films Brief Encounter, Psycho and a very special evening dedicated to star of stage and screen Gene Kelly, hosted by his wife Patricia Ward Kelly.

The principal spotlight
We’re thrilled that both Principal Cello Aleksei Kiseliov and Principal Tuba John Whitener will be taking centre stage this Season. Aleksei will be performing Saint-Saën’s First Cello Concerto and John will be playing a newly commissioned Tuba Concerto by Jennifer Higdon, alongside Holst’s The Planets.
