Conductor Jonathan Bloxham
He was Assistant at the CBSO 2016-18 and has since conducted a wide range of orchestras, notably the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie, BBC Scottish Symphony, Basque National, Lausanne Chamber and Malaysian Philharmonic. Last season he debuted with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Orchestre Philharmonique de Luxembourg, Tapiola Sinfonietta, and at Glyndebourne Touring Opera (Rigoletto). Planned for the coming months are a return to Glyndebourne and debuts with the DSO Berlin, Tokyo Symphony and Halle orchestras.
Artistic Director of the Northern Chords Festival, he has commissioned young composers such as Vlad Maistorovici, Jack Sheen and Freya Waley Cohen. Jonathan studied conducting with Sian Edwards, Michael Seal, Nicolas Pasquet and Paavo Järvi, after having learnt the cello at the Menuhin School and at Guildhall. He made his concerto debut at the Berlin Philharmonie in 2012.
