RSNO appoints two Associate Leaders

Lena Zeliszewska and Emily Davis to take on joint role of Associate Leader

The Royal Scottish National Orchestra (RSNO) has announced that Lena Zeliszewska and Emily Davis have been appointed the joint role of Associate Leader, taking on the post ahead of the 2019:20 Season.

Zeliszewska moves up from her current role as RSNO’s Associate Principal Violin, which she’s held since November 2016. A graduate of the Poznan Academy of Music, London’s Royal Academy of Music and Northwestern University, Lena previously served as Sub-Principal First Violinist with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra for six years. She has appeared as a guest leader with West Australian Symphony Orchestra, West Australian Opera, and the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra, as well as Principal Second Violin with the Hallé.

Newly appointed RSNO Associate Leader Lena Zeliszewska: “I am absolutely thrilled to have been appointed Associate Leader of the RSNO. Over the last two and a half years I've enjoyed immensely working with such fantastic musicians and wonderful friends. I believe that the orchestra has been going from strength to strength and I'm looking forward to the future with great excitement.”

Davis has been performing with the RSNO for just over a year and joined the orchestra on its most recent tour of the US, with Music Director Thomas Søndergård, pianist Olga Kern and violinist Sandy Cameron. She is an internationally in demand soloist, chamber musician and principal orchestral player whose previous appointments include Principal First Violin of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and Associate Concertmaster of the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra in Norway.

She has collaborated with groups including the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Budapest Festival Orchestra and the Aurora Orchestra, also enjoying invitations as Guest Concertmaster with orchestras such as the Oslo Philharmonic and Singapore Symphony Orchestra.

Newly appointed RSNO Associate Leader Emily Davis: “I am absolutely delighted to join the RSNO – they are a forward thinking and exciting ensemble to be a part of, and I’m extremely happy to become part of the team at this time.”

RSNO Music Director Thomas Søndergård: “I’m delighted to welcome Lena and Emily to take on the joint role of Associate Leader, and to welcome Emily to the RSNO family. The standard of applications for this position was incredibly high, but the exceptional talent of both shone through. Their musicianship and personalities make a perfect fit for us and I look forward to working with them.”

The RSNO’s 2019:20 Season begins in October, but not before the orchestra make two appearances at Edinburgh International Festival, the first with a performance of Strauss and MacMillan with Edward Gardner on Saturday 10 August 2019, and the second with Sir Andrew Davis for their performance of Götterdämmerung on Sunday 25 August 2019.
