Conductor Alice Farnham
Alice Farnham was shortlisted for the Royal Philharmonic Society Conductor Award 2024 and is on the BBC Woman’s Hour Music Power List. Her book In Good Hands – The Making of a Modern Conductor was published by Faber & Faber in January 2023.
Guest conducting includes the Welsh National Opera, National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland, BBC Concert Orchestra, Royal Opera House, Opéra de Rouen Normandie, Malmö Opera, Mariinsky Theatre, Calgary Opera, Folkoperan Stockholm, Royal Academy of Music, and Guildhall School of Music & Drama, Royal Ballet, Birmingham Royal Ballet, Danish Royal Ballet, English National Ballet, and Ballet Preljocaj.
In 2021 she recorded a concert of Jonathan Dove’s Gaspard’s Foxtrot with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. Her album Discovering Imogen (the orchestral and choral music of Imogen Holst) with the BBC Concert Orchestra and BBC Singers was released under the NMC label in September 2024 to critical acclaim. She was Music Director for a feature film of La Bohème which will be released by Finite Films later this year.
Since 2014 Alice has been Co-Founder and Artistic Director of Women Conductors with the Royal Philharmonic Society and Women on the Podium in Australia and is a guest teacher at the University of Adelaide and Australian Conducting Academy.
Alice was Organ Scholar at St. Hugh’s College, Oxford University and Organ Fellow at St. Thomas’ Church Fifth Avenue, New York. She trained at the St. Petersburg Conservatoire with the legendary pedagogue Ilya Musin.
