RSNO Film Composers Lab returns for a fourth year

The Royal Scottish National Orchestra (RSNO) is pleased to announce the return of its pioneering Film Composers Lab.

Now in its fourth year, Film Composers Lab is the RSNO’s flagship professional development scheme which offers early-career, UK-based composers the experience of composing for the screen as well as the opportunity to collaborate with a professional orchestra. Working closely with the Orchestra, RSNO staff and experts from the film and music industries, the five successful candidates will rescore an existing short film, creating a brand-new composition which will be recorded by the Royal Scottish National Orchestra at its world-class recording studio. Participants will be mentored by industry professionals John Lunn (Downton Abbey, Shetland, The Last Kingdom) and film and video game composer Danai Kokogia.

Delivered across six sessions between November 2025 and June 2026, the project will culminate in a public screening in Glasgow of all the newly scored films during the summer of 2026. One of the works will be selected for performance as part of the RSNO’s 2026:27 Concert Season.

RSNO Director of Engagement Andy Stevenson said: ‘I’m so pleased that the RSNO’s Film Composers Lab is back once again to offer unique access to industry experts, the musicians of the RSNO and our state-of-the-art recording studio all in one scheme. Each year brings a wealth of new talent and I’m excited to see what this year’s participants produce. I am certain it will be really special.’

The deadline for applications to Film Composers Lab is 5pm on Sunday 21 September 2025.
