RSNO welcomes back two members to its ranks

The Royal Scottish National Orchestra (RSNO) welcomes back Asher Zaccardelli and Jason Lewis who both return to positions they held previously with the Orchestra.

Both Lewis and Zaccardelli are returning members of the RSNO having left the Orchestra in 2022 and 2023 respectively. Zaccardelli will take up his previous position of Assistant Principal Viola and Lewis returns to the position of Associate Principal Trumpet.

Edinburgh-born violist Asher Zaccardelli was a pupil at St Mary’s Music School before completing his undergraduate studies at the Royal Academy of Music in London. An accomplished chamber musician, Zaccardelli works regularly with Scottish Ensemble, Hebrides Ensemble, Thirteen North and 12 Ensemble. Zaccardelli has also appeared as guest principal viola with many UK orchestras including the Philharmonia Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Aurora Orchestra and BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. On his return to the RSNO, Zaccardelli said: ‘I’m delighted to be rejoining the RSNO. I’m looking forward to performing with the Orchestra again and playing in the RSNO’s fantastic viola section.’

Originally from Aberystwyth, Jason Lewis completed his undergraduate degree at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, and a Master of Arts degree at the Royal Academy of Music. Jason joins from the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (CBSO) where he held the position of Section Leader Trumpet. In 2024 Jason appeared as a concerto soloist with the CBSO, performing the UK Premiere of Mark Simpson’s Concertino for Trumpet and Orchestra. On his re-appointment to the RSNO, Lewis said: ‘I can’t wait to rejoin the RSNO and perform with the Orchestra again in fantastic concerts across Scotland and the world. I’m also really looking forward to getting back to biking on Scotland’s amazing roads and spending more time with my family.’

Asher Zaccardelli performs with the Orchestra once again for Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in Dundee, Edinburgh and Glasgow (29, 30 and 31 May 2025) and Jason Lewis will join his colleagues on the stage in November 2025.
