RSNO Chorus appoints Gabriella Noble as new conducting fellow

The Royal Scottish National Orchestra (RSNO) Chorus announces the appointment of Gabriella Noble as the next postholder of the Sir Alexander Gibson Memorial Fellowship. Named after the Orchestra’s former Principal Conductor, the fellowship offers a year-long training opportunity for choral conductors.

Gabriella Noble, a graduate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, will be mentored in score preparation and rehearsal technique and will have the opportunity to work with the RSNO Chorus, Youth Choruses and Chorus Academies across a range of choral repertoire.

A passionate advocate for storytelling through choral text delivery, Noble has worked with the National Youth Choir and choirs at St Peter’s, London Docks and St Martin-in-the-Fields. As a mezzo-soprano, she is an Oxford Song Young Artist as well as a recent finalist in the Rebecca Clarke Song Competition and uses her career as a singer to inform her conducting.

On her appointment, Noble said: ‘I am thrilled to be appointed the Sir Alexander Gibson Memorial Fellowship with the RSNO Chorus. I can’t wait to work with the Chorus, who exude warmth and a true sense of joyful aspiration, to learn from Stephen Doughty, and to encounter such a broad range of projects in the 2026:27 Season. The opportunity to be part of an organisation with such wide-reaching professional and community-driven musical initiatives aligns with my values, where large arts organisations are bursting hubs of high-quality music-making that truly serve the community.’

RSNO Chorus Director Stephen Doughty said: ‘I am delighted at Gabriella Noble’s appointment as Gibson Conducting Fellow. As soon as she began working with the RSNO Chorus at her audition her musicianship and sense of engagement shone through, and I am greatly looking forward to working with her on next Season’s repertoire.’

In the 2026:27 Season, the RSNO Chorus will perform Verdi’s Requiem, Orff’s Carmina Burana and Handel’s Messiah alongside the Orchestra before taking part in the Chorus Jamboree in June 2027 which will see all the RSNO Choruses perform together in the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall.
