Open Call for Short Films

• A unique, newly composed score for your film.
• Opportunity to see the rescored film at a special screening event in Glasgow.
• A chance to support the next generation of screen composers.
• Credits and visibility in composer showcases and portfolios.

Fee: We will provide a fee of £200 usage fee per film.   

• Your existing short, animated film.
•  Separate DX and/or FX files.
• Permission to use your film for educational and portfolio purposes. All credits will be approved with the rightsholder.
• Permission for the RSNO to screen the film at a public RSNO concert in the 2026:27 Season. All credits will be approved with the rightsholder.

Delivered by the Royal Scottish National Orchestra (RSNO), the Film Composers Lab builds on the success of the RSNO’s Composers’ Hub initiative, delivered annually between 2015 and 2022.

Film Composers Lab offers five emerging UK-based composers an invaluable opportunity to expand their skills in film composition by rescoring an existing short film while working directly with a professional orchestra, project mentors, experienced film composers and seasoned screen industry professionals, creating a brand-new composition for a full symphony orchestra.

Delivered in a hybrid format, the project will culminate in a workshop at the RSNO’s world-class recording studio in May 2026. All five new scores will be programmed at a special public screening in the summer of 2026.

• The name of your film, when it was made, and a short paragraph (up to 100 words) describing the film or why it was made.

You must be based in the UK to be eligible to submit your film. The closing date for submissions is Friday 7 November 2025 at 5pm.
