Mendelssohn’s Scottish Symphony came to him one summer night in the ruins of Holyrood. A stirring musical portrait of Scotland, expect big tunes, rich orchestration and whole worlds of emotion. And who better to paint it today than Jörg Widmann: livewire conductor, dazzling composer and clarinettist extraordinaire? Every one of those talents is on display tonight, and trust us, you simply have to hear him for yourself.

Gain insight into the music with our musicians at the pre-concert talk at 6.45pm in the Upper Circle Bar in Edinburgh and the Clyde Foyer in Glasgow. Free to ticket holders.

The running time of this concert is approximately 2 hours, including a 20-minute interval
