Loganair to fly RSNO musicians to Scotland’s islands in new partnership

Loganair, the UK’s leading regional airline, has agreed a three-year partnership with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra (RSNO) to support the Orchestra’s engagement work across the Orkney, Western Isles, and Shetland.

Running across the 2026:27, 2027:28 and 2028:29 Seasons, the partnership will enable the RSNO to build a sustained programme in Scotland’s island communities, helping the Orchestra deliver performances, workshops and music-making activity with local schools and community organisations

In its first two years, flights from Glasgow will carry small RSNO ensembles and engagement staff to Orkney, Shetland, and the Western Isles. In its final year, the partnership will build towards a major island residency in 2029, with Loganair providing flight support to bring a larger orchestra and staff to the island communities for a celebratory series of performances and activities.

Across the three years, the programme will include schools workshops, performances and community events, bringing RSNO musicians directly into Scotland’s island communities.

Ronnie Matheson, Chief Commercial Officer at Loganair, said: “Our island communities sit at the heart of Loganair’s network, and this partnership puts that connection to work for something special. World-class orchestral music rarely reaches audiences in Orkney, Shetland and the Western Isles on their own doorstep, and by flying the RSNO’s musicians and engagement teams north we can help change that.

“The programme will reach schoolchildren and local arts organisations over its three years. We’re building towards a 2029 residency that leaves something lasting in these communities, and that strengthens the connection between Scotland’s islands and the talent and ambitions they already hold.”

Alistair Mackie, RSNO Chief Executive, said: “We are excited to be working with Scotland’s Airline, Loganair. An inspiring company that uses its services to support the entire nation, with an incredible commitment to culture.

Thanks to Loganair, we will be able to bring our musicians directly into even more communities across the country with live concerts and more. Our engagement activity with Scotland’s youngest islanders will be a vital part of this partnership, reflecting our ongoing commitment to reaching every child in every community and to addressing vital gaps in Scottish music education.

As a charity, receiving a multi-year commitment from a corporate partner is hugely significant, enabling us to build meaningful relationships with more individuals through shared cultural experiences. I look forward to seeing where this partnership will take us.”
