Sir Alexander Gibson Memorial Conducting Fellow Jenny Cheung
Jenny Cheung is a Glasgow‑based choral director and singing educator whose work is rooted in inclusion, community, and artistic excellence. She is the founder and director of The Voice Project Scotland, an organisation dedicated to helping people discover their voices and participate in singing communities that foster connection, confidence, and collective creativity.
Working primarily in areas of deprivation, Jenny leads community choirs and school-based singing programmes for both young people and adults. Her practice centres on removing barriers to participation and ensuring that singers of all backgrounds feel welcomed, supported, and empowered. She is known for creating rehearsal environments that are warm, accessible, and musically ambitious spaces where individuals can grow, collaborate, and experience the transformative impact of group singing.
Jenny originally trained as a flautist at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (now the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland), and began her professional career performing as a freelance piccolo player with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. Her more recent training is as part of the international Forge Conducting course where she is mentored by Sanna Valvanne and Greg Beardsell.
Across all her work, Jenny champions the belief that singing is for everyone and that, when voices come together, extraordinary things happen.
