RSNO appoints new Associate Principal Flute Posted Fri 12 December 2025
The Royal Scottish National Orchestra (RSNO) has announced the appointment of Oliver Roberts to the position of Associate Principal Flute. Roberts joins Principal Flute Katherine Bryan and Principal Piccolo Janet Richardson to complete the section.
Previously a member of the Orchestra of Scottish Opera, Roberts is a familiar face having performed as a guest in many of the UK’s major orchestras. Roberts is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music in London where he studied with the likes of William Bennett OBE, Michael Cox, Karen Jones and Clare Southworth.
About his new position, Roberts said: ‘I have been listening to the RSNO since I was a child and dreamed of playing with them since, especially after hearing Principal Flute Katherine Bryan perform at my school when I was 14.
My partner William Knight also recently joined the RSNO and I can’t believe that the dream of being in the same orchestra, which we have shared since we were 18, has come true! Nor can I believe that I too have joined this very special and dynamic group of musicians; especially during such an exciting time, with so much fantastic work and international tours on the horizon for the coming year.’
RSNO Principal Flute Katherine Bryan said: ‘I am absolutely thrilled to welcome Oliver to the section. Appointing such an expressive and passionate musician feels perfectly aligned with the values we hold as an orchestra. His artistry reflects exactly what we prioritise: dedication, sensitivity, and a genuine love for music. I can’t wait to work with him.’
Roberts joins his colleagues on the stage for Home Alone in Concert on Friday 12 and Saturday 13 December 2025.
