RSNO Leader Maya Iwabuchi celebrated in new portrait by Gerard M Burns

Artist Gerard M Burns reveals new portrait of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra’s Leader, Maya Iwabuchi, as part of his Mother Glasgow project – a celebration of multiculturalism within the city of Glasgow, and the essential role of women in our society. The project in its entirety will be exhibited early next year and will continue to be on display across the city and wider country throughout 2026.

The RSNO is pleased to continue supporting Scottish artists, having previously worked with Burns on Anthem (A Portrait of Music), a triptych now hanging in the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall’s Strathclyde Bar, and with Katie Smith on the colourful illustrations of RSNO musicians which feature in the RSNO’s Season brochure and hang in the Clyde Foyer of the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall.
