RSNO Season Update: Peter Bernstein and David Niemann replace Anthony Parnther Posted Wed 15 October 2025
The Royal Scottish National Orchestra (RSNO) is grateful to Peter Bernstein and David Niemann for stepping in to replace Anthony Parnther who is no longer able to conduct the Orchestra for concerts at the end of this month due to illness.
The concert programmes remain unchanged as Peter Bernstein, son of the Academy Award®-winning film composer and conductor Elmer Bernstein, conducts the RSNO live to picture at Ghostbusters in Concert. It was Peter Bernstein himself who orchestrated the soundtrack to the 1984 film which was composed by his late father. David Niemann joins star timpanist Paul Philbert for the World Premiere of Tamboo-Bamboo at Beethoven’s Eroica Symphony and takes the audience on a Halloween adventure with Fright at the Museum.
Niemann is proving himself to be one of this generation’s most talented conductors and made his debut with the RSNO earlier this year in the 2024:25 Season to critical acclaim. Testament to the conductor’s skills and relationship with the Orchestra, reviewer Simon Thompson described the performance as having ‘…an impressive level of chemistry already there between the podium and the players.’ Other highlights of Niemann’s 2024/25 season include his Berliner Philharmonie debut with Ensemble Modern, as part of the 2024 Berlin Musikfest, alongside his return to the Orchestre de Picardie.
Bernstein was a professional rock and roll bass player for 20 years before turning to composing and orchestrating many of his father’s soundtracks. Since 1981, Bernstein has composed for film and television, his credits include 21 Jump Street (1987-1991) and The Ewok Adventure (1985).
Tickets for the concerts are on sale at rsno.org.uk/whats-on.
