Scotland’s National Orchestra nominated for Royal Philharmonic Society Award Posted Mon 26 January 2026
The Royal Scottish National Orchestra (RSNO) is delighted to announce that it has been shortlisted for the Royal Philharmonic Society’s (RPS) Ensemble award which recognises musical ensembles for outstanding quality and scope of performances and work.
In the 2024:25, the RSNO had its most commercially successful Season to date, recording its highest ever ticket sales in its 130-year history, reaching a combined audience of over 88,000 people across 91 concerts. Its engagement programme reached 71,246 individuals across Scotland with 37 initiatives including community choirs, development programmes for young professionals and work in healthcare settings. The RSNO, along with Saffron Hall Trust and Glyndebourne, co-commissioned and premiered a new opera Uprising from composer Jonathan Dove which went on to win an Ivors Classical Award in 2025. In partnership with Nordic Music Days, a nominee in the Series and Events category of the RPS Awards, the RSNO helped deliver the 2024 festival which was hosted in Scotland for the first time in its 137-year history. Its award-winning in-house recording facility, Scotland’s Studio, welcomed renowned composers such as Errollyn Wallen and Lera Auerbach, and commercial partners such as Disney, Netflix, and Ubisoft to create world-class albums and soundtracks.
The RSNO would like to extend a big congratulations to their many friends who have also been nominated for various categories of the RPS Awards. RSNO’s own Engagement Conductor Ellie Slorach in the Conductor category; Nordic Music Days, with whom they partnered in 2024, in the Series and Events category; pianist Ethan Loch, performing with the Orchestra later this year, in the Young Artist category; Uprising, a co-commission with Glyndebourne, the Saffron Hall Trust and the RSNO in the Opera and Music Theatre category; John Wilson, conducting the RSNO in April, also in the Conductor category; and David Fennessy for Bog Cantata in the Large-Scale Composition category. A special mention goes to the Kirkcaldy Orchestral Society as the only Scottish group in the Inspiration category which is chosen by public vote, so please support them here.
The RSNO joins Tenebrae and The Carice Singers in the list of nominees for the Ensemble category which is supported by Outhere Music Group. The winners of the RPS Awards will be announced on Thursday 12 March in Queen Elizabeth Hall, London.
