Scotland’s National Orchestra to play at Rheingau Musik Festival for the first time Posted Thu 11 June 2026
The Royal Scottish National Orchestra (RSNO) makes its debut at the renowned Rheingau Musik Festival in Germany this August.
Taking to the stage at the Kurhaus Weisbaden alongside the RSNO is Music Director Thomas Søndergård with two different soloists over two concerts. Pianist Jan Lisiecki joined the Orchestra last October on its European Tour to critical acclaim, while violinist Bomsori Kim makes an anticipated debut with the RSNO. Rheingau Musik Festival audiences can expect a Scottish-inspired programme featuring Malcolm Arnold’s Scottish Dances, Edinburgh-born Alexander Mackenzie’s Britannia and Mendelssohn’s Scottish Symphony.
Alistair Mackie, RSNO Chief Executive, said: ‘I am delighted that the Orchestra is performing at this year’s Rheingau Musik Festival for the first time. We’ve had an exceptional Season for touring with a nine-concert European tour in October last year, a long-weekend in Germany this January and we have recently returned from two weeks in China. It is an important part of our work as a National Performing Company to raise Scotland’s profile and showcase our country’s talent internationally, and these tours highlight just how much our international reputation as a touring orchestra is growing. I look forward to seeing our new Rheingau audiences in August.’
