Support act announced for Nai Barghouti & Quartet with the RSNO Posted Mon 8 June 2026
Award-winning singer, composer and flautist Nai Barghouti and her quartet return to perform with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra (RSNO) this month following her sold-out concert in 2025, supported by sitar duo Ayan Sengupta and Srijanee Banerjee, and tabla player Sodhi.
Marking the RSNO’s fourth consecutive year working with Refugee Festival Scotland, Nai Barghouti and her quartet take to the stage at Tramway, Glasgow as part of the 2026 festival on Saturday 20 June alongside the RSNO. Presented in partnership with the Scottish Refugee Council, MARSM UK and Glasgow Mela, the concert will begin with a performance from Ayan Sengupta, Srijanee Banerjee and Sodhi.
From Nai Barghouti’s first stage appearances at the age of 14, she has gone to fill concert halls across the world from Egypt to France, via the London Jazz Festival and Edinburgh International Festival, to the UN headquarters in New York. Together with musicians from the RSNO and her Amsterdam-based quartet, featuring Khalil Khoury, Tony Roe, Ruven Ruppik and Mark Haanstra, Barghouti will present a diverse repertoire that highlights her genre-defying rearrangements of iconic pieces as well as original work rooted in Arabic maqams, jazz and classical western music.
Performing a programme of Indian classical music featuring sitar duo and tabla to open the concert, Ayan Sengupta, Srijanee Banerjee and Sodhi will explore traditional melodies and improvisation from the Hindustani tradition. This performance is supported by Glasgow Mela – Scotland’s biggest South Asian Festival, which is organised by Glasgow Life and this year takes place on Sunday 5 July.
